Historic Mitchelville Tour

Segway through Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park and take in history, culture, and nature.

Come ride on the pathways of the North end of Hilton Head Island through the Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park and travel back in time with your tour guide. You will learn the early history of Hilton Head, its early inhabitants, and the vital role Hilton Head played in the Civil War. You will visit the first churches, dating back to 1862, established for freed slaves, the site of the first school and the Union Cemetery.

The tour will include stops at the oldest structure on Hilton Head as well as the site of a Revolutionary War battle. Historic Mitchelville is perfect for the history lover in your family. This tour is limited to experienced Segway riders as the pace is fast; and a lot of ground is covered. Great for all ages with a minimum age of 12.

Wear comfortable attire for the weather. In cooler weather, a jacket and long pants will help. In warmer weather, lighter clothes will keep you from getting too hot, but beware of sun exposure. Wear sunscreen. Wear sunglasses if needed. A helmet is provided, or you can bring your own. Helmets are sanitized after each use. Closed-toes shoes will help keep you from stubbing your toes if you have to dismount your Segway suddenly, but are not required.

Bring your camera or cell phone camera. Disposable rain ponchos are provided. A hard-cased bag is attached to your Segway to hold a small purse, jacket, beverage, cell phone and other small items.

Before or after your tour, you may want to visit historic Fort Howell, just up Beach City Road from Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park.

Because we decline other guests who may have wanted your tour, we must have at least a 72 hour notice to cancel to give other guests on the wait list the opportunity to book. There is no refund if cancelled within 72 hours of the tour activity time. If you provide 72 hours notice or more, a 100% refund is provided. Cancellation must be by phone at 843-800-6004. Email cancellations will not be processed.

Individual guests who can't pass the training will be given a 100% refund. There is no refund for other guests who choose not to participate because one or more guests cannot participate.

If you have booked a tour and have a medical, handicap or weight issue that might affect your ability to ride, please call 843-800-6004 to discuss the condition. Guests who arrive and cannot meet the requirements forfeit their tour activity. So, please call!

There is no refund for any reason after the activity has started. If, for example, you go through training, are on the activity, and then decide it's not something you want to continue, we cannot reroute the tour for you to terminate early, so no refund is provided.

Weather:
1. Your activity will proceed even in light rain. This is the beach! Ponchos provided.
2. If a torrential rain or thunderstorm, the ride will be rescheduled. For those who cannot reschedule a 100% refund is provided.
Weather on the island is intermittent, so it may not be raining at your location. The tours are canceled by management only, not by guests. Please do not assume your activity is canceled!
